She has taken a leadership role on national knowledge sharing networks such as the Women Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub and the Future Skills research network. Her work focuses on multi-level system approaches to D&I\, innovation and entrepreneurship\, intersectionality and impact measurement. \nKatia Aubin is an expert in reputation management and brand influence. She has developed captivating\, engaging\, and inclusive communication strategies for organizations such as Sid Lee\, RDS\, Ubisoft\, and Rogers throughout her career. His work and worldview have been shaped through his learning of Disability Justice\, and Black Feminist theory. SUMMARY:THRIVE 2024 - Virtual Leadership Program
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT THE PROGRAM\nTHRIVE is a ten-week virtual program that will develop the next generation of Two-Spirit\, queer and trans people managers. Participants will get exclusive access to queer and trans leaders working at the highest levels of Canadian business and engage in important peer-to-peer discussions. Through live Zoom sessions\, collaborative group study\, and self-directed work our fourth THRIVE cohort will collectively unlock their potential as out leaders. \nHOW TO PARTICIPATE\nThe fourth cohort of THRIVE will support a positive learning environment and peer-to-peer learning. The process by which those interested in participating will open on Thursday\, December 7\, 2023. The deadline for applications will be Wednesday\, January 31\, 2024. Fernando uses the pronouns she/he. For the past three years\, Fernando has been working with the PanAmerican Development Fund with responsibilities for supporting LGBTI groups in the Mesoamerican region (Mexico\, Guatemala\, El Salvador and Honduras). Prior to that\, Fernando worked as a popular educator with UDEFEGUA – the Unit for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders – an organization that defends the political space for human rights organizations and provides support to human rights defenders under threat. In UDEFEGUA\, among other responsibilities\, Fernando was the liaison with feminist and LGBTI groups in Guatemala and throughout the Central American region. From 2010-2013\, Fernando served as Project Officer with Project Counseling Service (PCS)\, a regional Latin American organization that was Inter Pares’ main counterpart in Latin America. At PCS\, Fernando worked on the program dealing with issues of migration or “forced uprooting”\, connecting with grassroots groups throughout the “northern triangle” region and Mexico. \nHis/her experience as a proud\, queer Indigenous person deeply engaged in a broad range of human rights issues is an incredible asset. Fernando is an activist with deep ties at the local level. She/he is a founding member of REDMMUTRANS – the Red Multicultural de Mujeres Trans (Multicultural Network of Trans Women)\, a grassroots group comprised in large part by Indigenous trans women from several rural departments of Guatemala. Fernando is also a member of REDNAS – the Red Nacional de Diversidad Sexual y VIH de Guatemala (National Network on Sexual Diversity and HIV of Guatemala). REDNAS engages in advocacy with the Guatemalan government and at the international level on a variety of issues of concern to the LGBTIQ community. Fernando was a member of the Organizing Committee for the Regional Conference of ILGA\, held in Guatemala in 2017 and has taken part in 3 ILGA conferences in the region. \n[/vc_column][/vc_row] \nWhy is this event taking place? \nWhile many events and networks are inclusive of trans\, non-binary and agender people there are questions and discussions unique to these community members and their experiences. Through her work in the NGO sector and particularly at OCASI\, Ms. Douglas has highlighted issues of equity and inclusion including race\, gender and sexual orientation within the immigration system and promoted the creation of safe\, welcoming spaces within the settlement and integration sector.[/vc_column][/vc_row] \nA well-known face in Ontario and across the country\, Ms. Douglas is often called upon by governments to share her expertise. Ms. Douglas is a member of the Immigration and Refugee Advisory Committee of Legal Aid Ontario and the federal government’s National Settlement & Integration Council. From very early in her career\, she had great professional success: after having been a collaborator for major media such as La Presse and Radio-Canada\, Chris directed for the newspaper VOIR for five years\, which was the largest network of weekly cultural magazines in Quebec at the time. She then made the leap to the advertising world where she held the position of creative director for major agencies. Then\, she came out and started living true life as a trans woman. Suddenly being propelled into the reality of a visible sexual minority has profoundly transformed her perception of the world. In Quebec and internationally\, Chris advocates for diversity\, inclusion and the rights of trans people by sharing her story to the public. She frequently intervenes in the advertising industry to demand better representation of minorities. At Cossette\, she leads a multidisciplinary team of strategists\, community managers and multiplatform content creators. She is also part of the creativity collective that strives to push the boundaries of the agency’s creative branch at their Montreal office.
