The expected pay range for this position is $80,000 - $95,000 per year

UBC Connections Lab and Dr. Skye Barbic at the Department of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy is seeking a full-time Research Associate to develop/design, pursue funding for, implement, evaluate and publish research studies related to integrated health and social services with a particular focus on youth and adults with mental health and substance use care needs. This position requires a strong research background, excellent writing skills, and familiarity with requirements and guidelines related to relevant grant funding agencies (e.g., CIHR, MSFHR, Vancouver Foundation).

 

At the UBC Connections Lab, we are a dedicated research team that aims to bridge the gap between data, research, and practice in mental health. The team is led by Drs Skye Barbic (Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy) and Kirsten Marchand (School of Population and Public Health). We are a team of cross-disciplinary scientists and expert research staff evaluating the effectiveness of youth and adult mental health interventions at the individual, community, and population levels.

 

The Research Associate will join the Connections Lab, reporting directly to Dr. Barbic.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the Connections lab and local community partners, including Foundry and the Canadian Mental Health Association BC. Key responsibilities include:

  • Identifying upcoming funding opportunities and leading or co-leading research proposals, funding applications, and collaborative research agreements

  • Mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, research staff, and students on research methodologies and best practices

  • Performing literature and systematic reviews

  • Designing data analysis plans and conducting analyses on primary and secondary sources of data

  • Developing knowledge mobilization strategies and products, including reports, research briefs and manuscripts for publication

  • Preparing and delivering presentations for research meetings and conferences

  • Performing additional duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful applicants will have:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in a relevant discipline related to population and public health, health services, health or social policy, and rehabilitation science

  • Minimum 5 years of research-related experience working in the areas of mental health and substance use, and integrated health and social services for higher risk populations

  • Specific and thorough knowledge of research methodologies including qualitative and arts-based approaches

  • Strong experience in community engagement and participatory-based methods

  • Demonstrated leadership and/or mentorship skills and ability to take initiative, and exercise judgment and discretion

  • Proven experience in writing research grant application

  • A strong publication record in peer reviewed scientific journals

  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented

  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
