MEDI - 503 Introduction to Clinical, Patient Oriented and Translational Research
26W - Winter Term (September 8, 2026 to December 18, 2026)
The Experimental Medicine Graduate Program (https://exp.med.ubc.ca/) in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC) is seeking applications for a Graduate Teaching Assistant for MEDI 503, starting September 2026. This course is offered hybrid, both on Zoom and in person at ECC 100, with in-person attendance strongly encouraged.
Job Term: September 1, 2026 to December 31, 2026
Salary:
GTA I ($40.16/hour) - GTA 1 is a graduate student who has completed two (2) years’ service as a graduate student teaching assistant
GTA II ($38.65/hour) - GTA 2 is a graduate student with less than two (2) years’ service as a graduate student teaching assistant
Job Description:
Expected workload: 8 hrs/week
Attend twice weekly lectures in person (6 hrs/week)
Weekly class preparation, including organization of the Canvas Learning Management System
Weekly marking of student assignments and quizzes in Canvas
Timely response to student questions via email and Canvas
Responsibilities:
Perform timely and fair grading of assignments, quizzes and presentations, providing constructive feedback
Provide regular and timely academic support in Canvas:
Course page preparation
Class announcements
Course page updates with lecture notes and recordings, readings, and additional resources
Accurately record and update grades for student access
Set-up Qualtrics surveys and export results
Coordinate via email with guest lecturers
Required skills and competencies:
Have completed MEDI 503 or an equivalent course
Eligibility to meet all qualifications and requirements for a Graduate Teaching Assistant I or II
Demonstrated proficiency in the Canvas Learning Management System and with Qualtrics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Responsible and punctual
